So, it’s that time of year again. The sun is starting to make an appearance, the heat beats down and being indoors just feels… wrong! It’s the perfect time to grab some blankets, pack some food and finally take the family outside. Here are six of our absolute favourite Leeds parks to sit back, catch some rays and enjoy a homemade picnic!

Middleton Park

Located in South Leeds suburb Middleton, it’s a simply wonderful place to sprawl out on a blanket, sipping on a cold drink while enjoying the sunshine. There’s plenty for the kids as well, with a playground, a fishing lake and a beautiful forest to explore.

Roundhay Park

Most certainly one of the obvious choices, but with good reason! With two café’s, two playgrounds and the popular attraction Tropical World, the park just screams 'Family Day Out!'. Only three miles from the city centre and covering 700 acres, Roundhay’s array of parklands, lakes and formal gardens make it possibly the premier spot for a family picnic.

Golden Acre Park

Certainly one for the nature loving families, Golden Acre Park is littered with beautiful gardens and a scenic lake walk. Located near two Leeds nature reserves (Breary Marsh and Adel Dam), it’s perfect for sitting back with a few sandwiches and just enjoying the great outdoors.

Meanwood Park

A short journey of four miles outside of Leeds, Meanwood Park is the perfect spot to tuck into a sandwich and a cake or two! The area consists of a nature reserve, a valley trail, children's playground and much more for the family to explore.

Pudsey Park

Five miles from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, Pudsey Park has a Green Flag award for excellence and is one of the most popular parks in Leeds. An area for all the family with its playground, bowling green, skate park and West Leeds Country Park Visitor Centre – with native animals and an education room.

Kirkstall Abbey

You can't get a more picturesque picnic spot than the best preserved Cistercian monasteries in the country, Kirkstall Abbey. Founded over 800 years ago, there is plenty to take in upon visiting. After you are a fuelled from your picnic and ready for adventure why not gasp in awe at the phenomenal ruins, stroll through the park and woodlands or beside the River Aire.
