Fans of The Walking Dead have been wondering how the TV series would end since the very first series when it was aired back in 2010. The show, which is based on a comic book series, stars Andrew Lincoln as the main character of Rick Grimes, who has gone through some pretty hard times throughout the show.

It would have been bad enough waking up from a coma to discover that the human race has been overrun by zombies, but throughout the show, his family have been torn apart by zombies as he lost his wife Lori.

However, after eight years, Andrew Lincoln is stepping down from his role as the show's protagonist - news that was confirmed by the show's producer Robert Kirkman in an interview with IMDb.

When asked what the future held for Rick and whether he would be leaving the show, Robert said, "It’s looking that way. It does make the differences between the comic and the show more pronounced. But at the end of the day, it’s all about Andrew Lincoln."

But of course, the show's main actor couldn't leave the show any old way - and whilst he refused to tease any spoilers, Robert did reveal, "Andrew wants to do something special on the way out. We have something amazing planned. I wouldn’t want to spoil anything.

"But anybody who has been a fan of his journey, who loves Rick Grimes, who loves the world of The Walking Dead, you’re going to want to see what we do."

The Walking Dead series nine will air in October 2018.
