Emmerdale viewers have been fearing for the life of Gerry Roberts all week after he confronted Lachlan White. The loveable lad had discovered that his best pal was actually responsible for the deaths of his own mum and grandad.

Remember? He killed Chrissie and Lawrence in a car crash that also severely injured his aunt Rebecca, who as a result was left with a lifelong brain injury.

But in last night's episode, tensions reached fever pitch as Gerry was left begging for his life at the hands of Lachlan.

The evil murderer caused the ceiling of the B&B to fall down on top of Gerry, but he miraculously survived - much to the chagrin of Lachlan, who said, "Why couldn't you just die?"

Poor Gerry stopped cracking jokes and pleaded with Lachlan, saying that he'd learnt his lesson and that he wouldn't want another death on his conscience.

Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to convince Lachlan to spare his life - and despite Diane returning early, Lachlan covered Gerry's mouth so that he was unable to scream for help.

He then picked up a heavy stone and lifted it above his head, causing Gerry to try one last time, "You told me we were like family," before Lachlan cruelly replied, "We both know what happened to them, don't we?"
