One Direction are planning to take a break next year, according to reports.

Directioners around the world will be saddened by the news that the band’s fifth album could be the last they hear from the four-piece for at least a year.

Harry Styles is reportedly interested in recording a solo album, while bandmate Louis Tomlinson is understood to be keen to realise his ambition of becoming an X Factor judge.

A source close to the band reportedly said: “The band are to go on a break after promoting the fifth album next year, possibly with a number of live tour dates around the world.”

The band, including stars Niall Horan and Liam Payne, have worked hard on creating albums and touring since they were discovered by X Factor boss Simon Cowell in 2010.

Although many fans are still disappointed at the dramatic exit of Zayn Malik in March, it is understood that Cowell is keen to keep the band together long term by allowing them time off so they come back stronger.

However last night he dismissed claims of a 1D split, claiming it was “all speculation and not based on any facts”.

He added: “The band are excited about their brand new fifth album and their upcoming tour.”
