Kym Marsh reveals how she coped with heartbreaking baby storyline on Coronation Street
Kym lost her own baby eight years ago
Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has opened up about how she dealt with the heartbreaking storyline on the soap which saw her character Michelle Connor lose her baby at 23 weeks.
In the heartbreaking scenes, which aired earlier in the year, Corrie character Michelle suffered a miscarriage during her baby shower at the Rovers. Despite her partner Steve rushing her to hospital, the couple tragically lost the baby.
To make the story even more touching, actress Kym Marsh suffered her own heartbreak eight years ago when she went through a similar ordeal with her son Archie. After going into labour at only 21 weeks, Archie sadly died just moments after Kym had given birth in 2009.
With the recent Coronation Street storyline so close to home, Kym has now revealed the way she coped on set through the difficult time and admitted ITV ensured there was somebody with her at all times if she needed to talk.
She said, "He did grounding exercises with me, so he would bring me back to the here and now and take me out of the situation I'd just put myself back into.
"I also had the support of my fellow cast members and crew and a great support network at home."
Kym made the hard decision to agree to storyline when Coronation Street bosses asked her last year. The actress admitted her friends, family and colleagues helped her through the difficult time but also revealed she found it 'challenging'.
Kym has three other children in real life, 20-year-old Emilie Mae, 17-year-old David Ryan and six-year-old Polly.
Coronation Street continues weekdays on ITV.
