Jim Carrey releases emotional statement after being accused of ‘facilitating’ his ex’s death
He called the lawsuit a 'terrible shame'
Actor Jim Carrey has hit back after being accused of ‘faciliating’ his ex-girlfriend’s death in a new lawsuit created by her husband.
The Liar Liar actor enjoyed a on/off relationship with Cathriona White and just three days after their romance ended last year, Catriona was found dead following a drug overdose. Her body was found at her Los Angeles home along with a suicide note addressed to the actor, reading “I’m not for this world.”
Now, the 30-year-old's estranged husband Mark Burton has filed a death lawsuit against Jim, claiming he facilitated her death by providing her with the prescription drugs.
Mark states that Jim used his "immense wealth and celebrity status" to obtain the prescription drugs under the name of Arthur King.
54-year-old Jim has now hit back at the claims in an emotional statement to fans. It reads "What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honour against the evil in this world.
"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control.
"I really hope someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."

According to reports, the lawsuit filed against Jim claims he gave Cathriona pills in the days leading up to her death and accuses the actor of trying to cover his tracks by texting her.
A source told People Magazine that Jim was ‘doing good’ following her death but is still ‘very much affected’ by the loss.
