Jeremy Kyle under fire for describing eating disorder as 'self-inflicted'
Viewers hit out at the host.
Jeremy Kyle has come under fire for calling a woman’s severe eating disorder ‘self-inflicted’ on his show Emergency Room.
The focus was on Charlene, who’d been battling an eating disorder for 13 years, who was in tears as she opened up about what lengths she took to restrict her food intake.
The 29-year-old admitted that it’s had an impact on her health, saying “I’m pretty much in hospital a lot of the time .. I don’t have periods, I’ve got other medical conditions as well, I’m starting with artihritis.”
(Credit: ITV) Speaking to her mother, Jeremy said "Take this in the right way… Is it more difficult to accept because it's self-inflicted?"
He added "There must be sometimes you want to go 'for God's sake, you're making yourself ill!
“I know it is an illness I'm not negating it but as a parent you must go: 'God, come on!"
The mum replied that she feels like that ‘All the time’, after admitting that they’ve fallen out about it over the years.
However viewers didn’t think Jeremy's question was very sensitive.
ITV are yet to comment on the issue.
Emergency Room, which follows the presenter and doctors diagnosing medical issues, started last year and is now on its second series.
