The first image from the upcoming film Darkest Hour has been released and Gary Oldman is unrecognisable in the lead role.

The film stars The Dark Knight Trilogy actor as Winston Churchill just days after he becomes British Prime Minister. As Prime Minister he must face one of his most defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals of a nation.

As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe, the threat of invasion is imminent and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour.
