David Beckham to be the next James Bond?
The footballer turned actor refuses to rule out role
Footballer turned actor David Beckham has refused to rule out playing James Bond in the future.
In an interview with The Times over the weekend, David revealed that following landing speaking parts in short film Outlaws alongside Harvey Keitel and Guy Ritchie’s Knights Of The Roundtable, he now wants to pursue a career in acting.
With some Twitter users calling out for Becks to play Bond, the 40-year-old former Manchester United player didn’t say no to the role: “I don’t know. I really don’t know. But we’ll see.”
According to bookmakers William Hill, David is still a long shot for following in Daniel Craig’s footsteps at 200/1.
Homeland and Band of Brothers star Damian Lewis is currently William Hill’s favourite at 5/2 with Tom Hardy (3/1), Idris Elba (4/1), Henry Cavill (5/1), David Oyelowo (5/1) and Michael Fassbender (7/1) following closely behind.
Speaking about the criticism he might face for turning his hand to acting, David said: “I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed.
“I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn't want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice.
“But what I have done so far, I have loved. I can deal with most things. I am a well-known person, so I have got used to criticism.”
The new James Bond movie Spectre, which will be Daniel Craig’s swansong as 007, hits cinemas in the UK on 26th October.
