Woman killed in crash with double-decker bus near Wisbech

An 18 year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene on the A47.

An 18 year-old woman has died following a crash involving the car she was driving and a double-decker bus on the A47 near Wisbech.

Police were called to reports of the crash on the A47 between Wisbech and Guyhirn at about 9.20pm last night (Wednesday 19th May).

A white VW Polo and a Scania double-decker bus were involved.

The driver of the car, an 18 year-old woman from Littleport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers from the car, an 18 year-old woman and 25 year-old man, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn with serious injuries.

No one on the bus, including the 37 year-old female driver, required hospital treatment.

Police say they don't know exactly how many people were on the bus at the time, but it was at least four.

Firefighters also attended the scene and used specialist cutting equipment to release seven casualties who were left in the care of ambulance crews, four were taken to hospital.

An investigation into what happened is now ongoing and no arrests have been made.
