Marshland High School in Wisbech has been informed by Public Health England that a Year 10 student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Tom Duce, Deputy Headteacher, confirmed the student had displayed symptoms during half term and had been self-isolating at home:

"We have been told by Public Health England that no student or member of staff needs to isolate at home because the student who tested positive had not recently been in school," Mr Duce said. "We will continue to monitor the situation but we want to reassure parents that the measures we have taken to date are in line with government advice and guidelines."

He added:

"Marshland remains open for all year groups and all our other students should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."

Pupils at the school have today been reminded of the importance of washing their hands and using hand sanitizer.

Parents were also written to today with advice on how they can support their child if they display symptoms.

There have been two other confirmed cases at Marshland High since the start of the new school year.

On Tuesday last week (3 November), a Year 11 student received a positive test result after displaying symptoms during half term while on October 14, another Year 11 student received a confirmed positive test following a period of isolation at home after family member tested positive.

Neither cases resulted in students or staff isolating at home as the confirmed cases had already been isolating at home and had been away from school.
