Chinese New Year will take a different look in King's Lynn and West Norfolk today (12 February).

Traditional celebrations have been cancelled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, it's hoped the Year of the Ox will still be marked in the borough.

Councillor Stuart Dark said:

"I wish our Chinese community in King's Lynn and West Norfolk and happy and prosperous new year. I appreciate it's a different new year this year, because of covid, but hopefully we'll be out of it soon and be able to enjoy the year and all it brings."

We're also being urged not to use Chinese lanterns to mark the occasion.

Councillor Dark said:

"I know there have been concerns around these lanterns over a period of time. I just asked people to be responsible and enjoy the new year in a safe and responsible way."

We're being asked not to to send up Chinese lanterns
