Two men have been jailed for 18 months combined for attacking a man whilst on a night out.

Jordan Blizzard, aged 30 and of Rodney Road, Great Yarmouth and Keaton Stavri, aged 20, and of Chaucer Road, Great Yarmouth both appeared before Norwich Crown Court today (Wednesday 12 June 2024) and were jailed. Blizzard was sentenced to 10 months and Stavri was sentenced to eight months in prison. They will both be subject to post sentence supervision.

Today’s sentence follows an incident on 1 October 2023 when the victim was attacked by Blizzard and Stavri whilst walking home from a night out in Norwich. The victim was walking through Tombland, past Blizzard and Stavri, when they made comments towards him and he turned around in response to speak to them. Blizzard and Stavri continued to walk towards the victim before pushing him to the floor and violently assaulting him.

Blizzard punched the victim 12 times in the head as well as kicking him seven times. Stavri punched the victim in the head three times and kicked him four times in the body. Both fled the scene leaving the victim on the floor.

The victim approached police officers after the attack and he was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, with serious injuries to his eyelid and socket, which had to be glued back together.

CCTV enquiries revealed that Blizzard has already been dealt with by officers earlier in the evening. He had been served with a Section 35 dispersal notice, prior to the attack, telling him to leave the city centre for 48 hours but he did not comply. An image search on the Police National Database, using a still from officer’s bodyworn video, identified Blizzard.

Officers attended Blizzard’s home address and arrested him on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning. His mobile phone was seized and found to contain text messages which discussed the fighting that had taken place that night.

The second suspect, Keaton Stavri, was identified through searches of Blizzard’s phone. He was listed as a contact and had been communicating with him. Stavri was arrested at his home address and taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Both were released on bail and later charged with actual bodily harm.

Today (Wednesday 12 June 2024), Blizzard and Stavri have been sentenced to 10 months and eight months respectively. HHJ Moore said ‘‘The victim was walking home from a night out and had the misfortune of passing the pair of you. CCTV shows what is difficult to put into words, it was brutal. She added: ‘The incident as a whole was really quite disgraceful and fuelled by drink. It is good fortune and not good judgement that his injuries were not more severe. People die when they are attacked in the way the pair of you attacked him’.

Sgt Craig Weir, who led the investigation, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack that has had a serious impact on the victim.

“Both Blizzard and Stavri left the victim, not knowing how seriously he was injured or showing any consideration for his wellbeing.

“Violence of any kind is not acceptable on our streets and we will continue to work to ensure our nightlife in Norwich operates in a safe and considerate manner.”
