An ancient tradition will be missing from King's Lynn this year.

Today (13 February) should have seen the start of the new season and the arrival of The Mart, which can't go ahead because of the coronavirus pandemic

The Mayor, Councillor Geoff Hipperson said:

"The Mart comes to King's Lynn by a very ancient charter. The charter dates to from 1204, which is 817 years ago. Since then, records suggest The Mart has only not taken place because of war and plague, so this year is very rare.

"I wish the showmen a safe return to normal business later in the year and trust we will see them return for their traditional welcome in 2022."
