'Teletubbies style' house planned in Norfolk village
The plan would see a single storey home covered with earth
A village could get its own Teletubby-style house, under plans going before South Norfolk Council this week.
The owner of land opposite Turnpike Farm in Suton, near Wymondham, wants to build a single-storey home covered in an earth bund.
The building has been likened to something from the set of children’s TV programme, Teletubbies – where the characters lived in a hillside house – but with a flatter white-rendered entrance.
A set of solar panels, a pond and a 5,000-litre rainwater tank for filling toilets and washing machines are also included in the plans.
Among those to write in support of the scheme is the chief medical officer at the Norfolk and Suffolk Mental Health Trust, who said the property would “bring its occupants into contact with nature”.
South Wymondham councillor Suzanne Nuri-Nixon described the home as “innovative” and said it would help its occupants live without fossil fuels, with a building which generates its own energy and manage its own waste.
Development officers at South Norfolk Council have recommended the plans for approval, subject to conditions.
