Gaywood Primary School in King's Lynn was informed yesterday (15 December) that a teacher had received a positive COVID-19 test result.

Following advice from Public Health England, 60 pupils and six staff members were this afternoon told to isolate at home.

This confirmed case comes after 115 students and 15 staff members were told on Sunday to isolate at home after a student received a positive COVID-19 test result.

Neil Mindham, headteacher, has stressed it is "highly unlikely" these confirmed cases are related due to the time gaps involved.

He continued:

"I would like to thank our parents for the fantastic support we have received over the past few days. We are grateful for all the support from our families, staff and pupils, particularly in following guidance sent home and for helping with remote learning.

"We understand parents might be worried but we want to assure them the measures we have taken to date are in line with government advice and guidelines and we are continuing to work with Public Health England and Norfolk County Council."

Parents have been advised that lessons at home will continue each day for those isolating with daily English, Maths and foundation subjects from Gaywood Primary's curriculum.

Mr Mindham added:

"The rest of the school remains open and all our other students should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."

Parents were also reminded what the most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are, what they can do if their child develops symptoms of COVID 19, and how they and their children can help to stop Covid-19 spreading.

In addition, Gaywood Primary pupils were reminded once more about the importance of washing their hands and using hand sanitiser.
