A man is in hospital with spinal injuries, after a suspected serious arson at a house in Gayton.

Shortly before 2am yesterday (19th December), police were called to Hall Farm Road, to reports of a fire.

A woman in her 20s, who lived at the property, fled to a neighbouring house. A man in his 30s, who was also there at the time of the fire, suffered spinal injuries trying to escape.

He remains at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In a statement, Norfolk Police added: "Officers believe the fire was started deliberately and enquiries are ongoing to find a man aged in his 40s suspected of being involved in the incident. Police are also investigating an assault connected to the same incident.

"The victims and suspect are known to each other and there isn’t believed to be any wider risk to the public."
