A man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for the serious sexual assault of a woman in Norwich.

32 year old Aaron Riseborough, from Thorpe Road, Norwich will spend five years and four months for two counts of sexual assault by penetration.

He was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday 12 March 2024, having previously pleaded guilty to both offences.

This sentencing follows an incident on Sunday 26 July 2020, at around 2.30am, when Riseborough entered the victim’s address uninvited whilst she was asleep.

He proceeded to sexually assault her in her bed.

She left shortly afterwards to go to a neighbouring property for help.

"Completely dominating my life"

A victim personal statement, read aloud in court, detailed the effect Riseborough’s assault has had on her life: ‘After what happened, I can only describe it as completely dominating my life for a number of years.

"For months after it happened, I was unable to live in my address because I was so scared of being on my own. It took a long time to feel safe again.’

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Mark Cardow said: “Riseborough’s actions have had a deeply negative impact on the victim’s life. It is likely to continue to affect her for a considerable amount of time.’

‘As a force, we are dedicated to putting these types of offenders behind bars. I would like to reassure the local community that we will always support victims of sexual assault.’

‘I hope this sentence provides the victim with some level of closure and she can begin the next stage of the healing process.’
