A rescued seal pup, which was named after fundraising superstar Sir Tom Moore, has been released into the North Sea following the fantastic care of the team at SEA LIFE Hunstanton.

Sir Tom was rescued on 14 May from Holkham beach after being found alone on the sand. It will never know why or how he was separated from his mother but being born prematurely and weighing only 9 kilos, he would have had no chance of survival on his own.

Sir Tom makes his way back to the wild

When he first arrived at SEA LIFE Hunstanton and entrusted to the Animal Care Team, he was rehydrated and fed a special nourishing fish soup. He has since been lovingly cared for, raised and renamed - after national treasure, Captain Sir Thomas Moore. The team have even taught him to catch his own fish!

He has gone from strength to strength and has now completed his rehabilitation, which means he could be released back into his home in the North Sea.
