Founder of Scotty's 'thrilled' after Piers Morgan takes on game show
He'll donate his winnings to the charity
Scotty's Little Soldiers could be in for a bumper Christmas this year, as Piers Morgan is set to appear on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? for the charity.
The episode, which is due to air on Boxing Day will see the broadcaster tackling 15 questions in hopes of bringing home a million pounds for the King's Lynn charity.
Scotty's Little Soldiers was founded in 2010 by war widow Nikki Scott, a year after her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, was killed in action in Afghanistan. Nikki saw the devastating impact on their two young children and wanted to help others in the same situation.
Piers has previously shown his support for Scotty's Little Soldiers and he recently talked highly of the charity on ITV's Good Morning Britain during an interview with Scotty's founder Nikki Scott and her 12-year-old daughter Brooke, who was seven-months old when her father was killed whilst serving his country.
Piers said:
"I can't think of a more deserving charity than Scotty's. One of my brothers is a serving army colonel with four daughters, so I know only too well the enormous stresses and strains put on military families when their loved ones are serving their country in combat, and the huge relief when they return safe and well.
“But sadly, some heroes do not come home and Scotty's does wonderful work in helping families left bereaved. I just hope I don't let them down, and raise as much money as possible!”
Nikki says Piers has been a real supporter of the charity.
She said:
“Piers used to work with one of our team, Sarah, and she told Piers about the work we do at Scotty’s and I think it really hit home to him, because his brother is a serving army colonel with four young daughters, so it really means something.
“Piers was a very young child when his father tragically died, so he grew up without jknowing his dad, so when he found out about the charity, he wanted to help and he’s been so supportive. So when he was given the chance on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, he chose Scotty’s and we’re all thrilled and very excited.
“We work with bereaved forces families daily and we see there are still so many gaps of support that are needed, so this could potentially be massive for Scotty’s, so we’re very excited.”
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, with whom Piers has a legendary long-held feud, meaning the show, which will air on ITV at 9.30pm on Boxing Day (26th Dec), promises to be a great watch!
