School governor on mission to provide every child in West Norfolk with a laptop
Lady Howard hopes to extend it further if she gets enough support
A school governor is making it her mission to make sure every child in West Norfolk has access to a laptop to do their schoolwork.
Lady Corty Howard is a governor at Sandringham and West Newton Primary School, and says she's always been passionate about the education system.
She believes there are many children who have been overlooked for getting tech to help with their schoolwork, estimating that between five and seven per cent of children still don't have access to a laptop when trying to work from home.
Because of this, she is wanting to collect enough laptops and money for new laptops to be able to ensure every child across the area has the same tools to learn, regardless of how much their parents can afford or where they live.
Lady Howard wants to ensure every child at the primary school has access to a laptop, before then moving on to schools in the wider area.
She says children not having access also makes the job even harder for their teachers:
"Teachers are exhausted.
"They are trying to teach mixed age groups of mixed abilities, with some children in school and some children not at school.
"If they had a vehicle which meant all the children in their classroom could be taught at the same time, that would make teaching a much more level playing field, going forward."
Anyone who has an old laptop, or can donate money to the cause is urged to contact Lady Howard on cortyhoward@yahoo.co.uk.
