New funding will be used to redevelop former Sanyo site in Lowestoft

Plans to regenerate the site of the former Sanyo electronics factory in Lowestoft have received a big funding boost.
East Suffolk Council has been awarded a £4.2m grant from the government to move ahead with plans to redevelop the site, on the south side of Lake Lothing.
The former Survitec manufactuing site is also included in a long term pla to create 350 new homes close to the waterfront.
The land has been council owned since 2018, when it was taken on by Waveney District Council.
The former television factory closed down in 2009. This new funding will be used to make the site safe, clearing away the remaining parts of the manufacturing facility.
Councillor David Beavan, East Suffolk's cabinet member for Housing said: “This is good news. Lowestoft’s industrial past can be transformed into much needed housing which is as affordable and as sustainable as we can make it.
“Record homelessness needs more housing, which is better on brownfield than greenfield sites.
“We just need funding for the tidal barrier now to allow this project to go full steam ahead.”
