People visiting Sandringham on Christmas Day to pay their respects to King Charles are being urged to leave plenty of time.

Norfolk Police say additional measures will be in place to deal with the crowds of people expected to arrive at the royal estate on Christmas Day, where the monarch is expected to attend a traditional church service.

King Charles is spending Christmas in Norfolk for the first time in three years along with the Queen Consort and other members of his family.

It comes after a year of transition for the monarchy with the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

Extra police officers will be on duty on the roads leading up to the estate while the monarch is staying there.

A public viewing area will be open on Christmas morning.

Visitors are being warned to expect searches as they approach the Sandringham gates on the 25th.

It's thought the King will head to Balmoral after the Christmas festivities, spending the New Years period in Scotland.
