A charity has refused to accept a £5,000 donation from a Norfolk MP because they “don’t like his politics”.

Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe, who donates his monthly salary to local charities, has called the decision “pathetic”.

Writing on X, the businessman, who was booted out of Reform after a dramatic fallout with Nigel Farage, said: “A local Great Yarmouth charity refused my salary donation today, clearly because they don’t like my approach to politics. Left-leaning people involved.

“Thousands of pounds that won’t go to the people they’re supposed to help because they can’t put petty politics aside – very disappointing.

“Pathetic. We should all be in this to make Great Yarmouth a better place to live and raise a family. ”

He has not revealed the name of the charity that refused his donation.

His post disclosing the charity’s rebuttal came an hour after he said people “shouldn’t care” if they get called “racist”, “xenophobic”, “Islamophobic” or “far-right” for their views.

The post continued: “Honestly, it doesn’t matter. Trust me. They are now just meaningless words.

“Don’t moan. Don’t bite. Don’t care.”

While seemingly unfazed by being called such names, Mr Lowe has recently threatened to sue someone who called him a “racist white supremacist” on social media.

Mr Lowe has been donating his salary to local causes since he won his seat in July 2024, having promised to do so during his campaigning.

So far, he has given cash to the East Coast Truckers, a local hospice and Hemsby lifeboat.

The multi-millionaire businessman earns more than £91,000 a year through his MP salary.

He has also been paid more than £40,000 since being elected last July by X, through his monetised posts on the platform.
