QEH staff regularly checking site is safe, says MP
James WIld says bosses would close parts of the site if needed
Work is still ongoing at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn to make sure the site is safe for patients and staff.
North West Norfolk MP James Wild says there are teams going round on a daily basis to make sure everything is safe.
It comes as it was revealed parts of the hospital are being held up by metal props, as the hospital is more than a decade past its initial shelf life.
He says bosses wouldn't hesitate to take action if needed: "There are inspections happening on a daily basis. They go around different parts of the hospital to check for cracks.
"There's a great team going around looking for problems and if the trust, board or chief executive thought there was a really serious risk, then they would close off parts of the hospital."
A campaign calling for a new hospital to be built to replace the existing site is ongoing.
A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “We are committed to improving health infrastructure across the country and are backing the NHS with £4.2 billion for hospitals to maintain and refurbish their buildings this year.
"As part of this the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn will receive over £20 million to address the most immediate issues.
“Alongside this we have confirmed funding for 40 hospitals across the country, with a further eight schemes invited to bid for future funding to deliver 48 hospitals by 2030.”
