Rapid Covid-19 testing to continue in West Norfolk
Testing centres will remain open next month
Rapid-result testing for coronavirus in King's Lynn and West Norfolk is going to continue next month.
The scheme is open to people who don't have Covid-19 symptoms and aims to prevent further spread of the virus and keep local case numbers down.
One in every three people who have coronavirus don't show symptoms and so this is a quick way of identifying people who should be self-isolating.
From the week commencing the 1st March, the following test areas will be open for two week:
- King's Lynn - St James Swimming Pool
- Downham Market - Alive Downham Leisure
- Testing sites will be open from 8am until 4pm Monday to Friday from 1-5 March and 8-12 March 2021.
- Anyone attending an appointment should wear a mask, observe social distancing and ensure they have a valid mobile number so they can receive their results - usually within 30 minutes.
- Cllr Stuart Dark MBE, Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Public Protection, said: " I would encourage everyone who has to leave their home in King's Lynn or Downham Market to undertake essential business to take advantage of this opportunity to have a test and to have the test repeated at least once a week.
- "Anyone of us could have the virus and could be spreading it unknowingly because we do not have any symptoms.
- "Symptom-free testing is an extra tool to help reduce the opportunity for the virus to be transmitted.
- "Even if the test result is negative, it is still vitally important that people follow the lockdown restrictions and adhere to social distancing, handwashing and wear face coverings when required.
- "It is important that we all do our bit to help protect ourselves, protect others and protect west Norfolk."
- Anyone who tests positive will be asked to self-isolate immediately.
