QEH formally opens Cancer Wellbeing and Support Centre
The garden area is now complete

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn (QEH) has formally opened its Cancer Wellbeing and Support Centre as work completes on the centre’s new garden for patients.
The Cancer Wellbeing and Support Centre opened at QEH in April 2021 following a £625,000 redevelopment funded by the Trust’s charitable fund. The centre offers patients and their families support and information following a cancer diagnosis.
The state-of-the-art facility is a welcoming space for patients to access non-clinical services at QEH with a specific focus on supporting the long-term impact of cancer. The Macmillan Information and Support Service provides these services which includes general health and wellbeing advice, access to financial support, and to patient support groups, courses and events within a safe and confidential environment.
The area outside of the centre has been redeveloped to become a welcoming space for those visiting the centre, with raised flower beds and outside seating. The area has been specifically designed to provide privacy to patients visiting the centre.
The plaque was unveiled by patient and Chair of the Cancer Services User Group Peter Tasker who was joined by the Trust’s Chairman Professor Steve Barnett and Chief Executive Caroline Shaw CBE.
Professor Steve Barnett, Chairman at QEH, said:
“The Cancer Wellbeing and Support Centre at QEH is fantastic news for West Norfolk, and a significant step for the Trust as we take steps to improve our estate infrastructure. I’m pleased that the Cancer Wellbeing and Support Centre enables us to expand and strengthen our services to provide the best possible care for our patients living with cancer.”
Caroline Shaw CBE, Chief Executive at QEH, said:
“We want to deliver the best possible cancer care and our new Cancer Wellbeing and Support Centre supports our patients with the overwhelming impact that cancer can have on everyday life. The welcoming space is for anybody affected by cancer – patients, their families and carers, to receive a range of support from our fantastic team of dedicated staff and volunteers.”
