QEH due in court after pleading guilty to charges brought by CQC
The hospital admitted their mistakes exposed a 28-year-old man to avoidable harm - which led to his death
King's Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital is due in court today- after pleading guilty to charges brought forward by the Care Quality Commission.
They're prosecuting the QEH, after they admitted their mistakes exposed a 28-year-old man to avoidable harm - which led to his death in March 2019.
The trust's sentencing is due to be take place at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court at 10 am on Thursday 8 December.
Why is the QEH in court?
Lucas Allard was awaiting heart surgery back when he went to the trust’s A&E with chest pains.
He had a CT scan, the results of which indicated he was fit to be discharged.
However, a review two days later found staff looked at the wrong report - Lucas's actually showed significant abnormality. He died from cardiac arrest shortly after returning to hospital.
The trust admitted it hadn't ensured safe care and treatment - and conceded that if Lucas' condition been accurately diagnosed, he would have received suitable care
