A project to plant a million trees across Norfolk over five years has hit a major milestone, with more than 200,000 saplings planted across the county since November 2020.

The 1 million Trees for Norfolk initiative has seen Norfolk County Council planting new forests on council owned land, while encouraging parishes and community groups to hold their own tree-planting events.

The Jubilee Trees for Norfolk scheme, launched to leave a legacy for the late Queen Elizabeth II, has seen 33,000 put in across the county alone.

The parish of Rollesby, near Caister, has seen more than 23,000 saplings planted over the past 2 and a half years.

Eric Vardy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste at Norfolk County Council, said:

"This initiative is about much more than just planting trees. It's about addressing the environmental challenges we face and creating a greener, more sustainable future for Norfolk."

"The success of the Jubilee Trees scheme shows what can be achieved when we work together, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for this initiative."
