Police are appealing for a group of men who stopped to help the victim of an assault in Thetford last week (Thursday 9 January) to come forward.

Officers were called to an incident at a casino in King Street in Thetford at 12.34am where a man threatened a member of staff, throwing a brick which damaged a wall. He then approached a woman in the street and hit her over the head with the brick.

Following the assault, as the victim fled down The Meadows, she saw a group of men who called for help and made sure she reached home safely.

The victim, in her 20s, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital with a head injury. She has since been discharged.

Officers arrested a man following the incident and he was taken to Bury Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Owen Coppins , 25, of no fixed abode, has been charged with GBH with intent, assault and criminal damage. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on 7 February 2025.
