Plea not to litter PPE in Hunstanton
There was a 'high number' of complaints about litter over the summer
We're being reminded not to litter Hunstanton with PPE.
Litter pickers have told the Town Council they are aware of some items being found on beaches, but far more is being discarded in the streets, outside shops and in residential areas.
Some have also been found hanging on trees and bushes in the countryside.
A spokesperson for the council said:
"We’ve been in touch with regular beach walkers and litter pickers who advise that although some items of PPE have been found on the beaches it is a very small amount. Much more PPE is to be found discarded in the streets.
"Hunstanton Town Council received a high number of complaints during the summer regarding the amount of litter left on the local beaches. These items are mainly single use plastics such as bottles, bottle tops, plastic bags and broken pieces of beach toys.
"Due to COVID several initiatives, such as expanding the Hunstanton Refill Scheme, organised litter picks etc. have not been able to happen this year. HTC has plans in place for an anti-litter campaign in the spring."
