Penguin chick's gender confirmed in Hunstanton

Earlier this year SEA LIFE Hunstanton were delighted to welcome a new baby penguin.

However, it's not easy to tell if the young birds are male or female and this has to be determined through DNA analysis from a feather sample, which can only be done when the chick has moulted their natal down feathers and their adult waterproof feathers have emerged.

Squirt is growing up well.

This test was recently done and it's been confirmed, their new arrival, is a girl.

Named Squirt because of her projectile 'toilet habit's, she weighed 90g at birth, but is now a health 3.2kg
