A sprinting group in Norfolk says the Paris Olympics has brought renewed energy to running and an increase in people getting involved in the sport.

‘Sprint Speed Camp’ in Norwich and King’s Lynn focuses on improving sprint speed over the course of six weeks through technical drills and training.

Organiser, Liam O’Dell, says he's been inundated with people wanting to give the sport a go and that it's been ‘amazing’ for the business: “We had about six or seven that signed up two years ago, to I’d say probably more than 55 now.

“With it being the Olympics, we’ve had much more of an uptake.”

Team GB returned home in style earlier this week on a golden train from the Paris Olympics with 65 medals, including 10 across track and field events.

Liam added: “It has brought in some energy from those that wanted to do sprint speed camp because of the Olympics.

“It’s just taking that inspiration moment to move forward within a sport or within themselves and maybe do better.”

O’Dell says he commonly has people getting involved from sports backgrounds such as football, rugby and athletics who are looking to improve their pace.

Groups are currently run on a Monday evening at Thorpe St. Andrew school, and on a Wednesday evening at Reffley Academy in King’s Lynn.
