Norwich Extinction Rebellion are down in the capital today, demanding an immediate end to all new investment in fossil fuels.

There'll be there for the next eight days and are planning protests which aim to recruit new members and cause large scale disruption on key roads.

James Harvey is from the group and travelling down. He told why he and other felt they needed to act: "It's due to Government inaction on the climate crisis and their continued heavy reliance on the fossil fuel industry and the support they give it. Things aren't changing quickly enough, the IPCC report came out last Monday and explained how dire the situation is. So, we're going to take to the streets to try and make change along with raising the profile of the issue.

"We're not waiting until 2050 for this to happen, there's people dying in the global south right now, Island nations are going underwater right now. The cost of living crisis or scandal that we're in at the moment is partly due to the climate crisis and is being broadened out by our continued reliance on fossil fuels, so we need to get the message out there and people need to if they can, make their voices heard while they still can.

"I'm in my mid-forties now and I've got a niece and nephew, the oldest of which is ten. I'm just genuinely terrified that they are not going to live as long as I am, so I'm out on the streets for their future and I hope that everyone else who has children or loved ones does the same".

He says they'll be carrying on from where 'Just Stop Oil' left off- and targeting companies linked to oil and gas: "The action in London will continue targeting fossil fuel companies and Government, to try and raise the profile of the issue, along with making people aware of how scandalous the lack of action is. How these super rich fossil fuel companies are continuing to line their pockets at people's expense, while there's other alternatives out there now with renewables and we need to be investing in those".
