Norwich City came from behind to start 2024 with a 1-1 home draw against Southampton.

Russell Martin's side came into the fixture with a 17-game unbeaten run and took the lead midway through the second half.

However, Josh Sargent equalised with just over 10 minutes remaining to secure a point.

It was the US international's first appearance back at Carrow Road after picking up an injury away to Huddersfield Town in August - he says he's pleased to be back: "It was very nice. The fans obviously were very good to me, and I'm very grateful to them. I'm also very grateful to the medical staff who have helped me get back on the pitch.

"I'm feeling good at the moment, so hopefully we can keep going.

I'm still trying to get sharp, I haven't been training for too long but it's getting better each day and we're going to keep working on it."

The Canaries stay 13th in the Championship.

Head coach David Wagner welcomed the result: "I'm pleased with the effort.

"The players have shown the shift that they've brought in, it was a very difficult task. We had to suffer a lot.

"How the players executed the game plan was just great. We set ourselves up a little bit differently, I wanted to break them on the counter.

"We had our opportunities, good opportunities, but they did as well. They had a lot of possession, so we had to be switched on always to defend our box, and the players have done fantastically today.

"It was a hard-fought point, a deserved point if you've seen the shift, the effort, and the opportunities which they created. I'm very pleased with what I've seen."
