Norwich City missed out on a chance to regain a top six place in the Championship as they were beaten 1-0 by tenth place Sunderland in yesterday's game at Carrow Road.

Abdoullah Ba's early goal ended up being the difference between the teams.

The Canaries got their first real effort on goal in the 10th minute, with Max Aarons breaking in behind only for Anthony Patterson to deny him.

From there, Pukki and Marcelino Núñez also had shots, testing the Sunderland number one.

The opening goal came after a quarter of an hour, with Ba finding the bottom corner from just outside the penalty area.

Norwich were very nearly two down moments later, with Gunn forced to use his body to save from Gelhardt.

In the second half, Pukki had another attempt on target, side footing Dimi Giannoulis' cross towards goal but straight to Patterson.

The Canaries continued to challenge Sunderland, but failed to create an opening for an equaliser.

Norwich will now be looking ahead to Wednesday evening's game against Huddersfield.
