Norwich flats set for safety work as cladding doesn't meet fire regulations
St Anne's Quarter on the Riverside is set for work as it doesn't meet guidance that was updated after the Grenfell Tower Fire
Work will need to be done to several blocks of flats in Norwich, as cladding fitted to the building doesn't meet updated fire safety regulations.
The recently build St Anne's development on the Riverside consists of over 400 flats, built at a cost of around £85m by Orbit Homes.
The low rises will now need to be assessed, with some of the cladding to be replaced, as it doesn't meet stricter rules brought in after the Grenfell Tower Fire in 2017.
A spokesperson from Orbit commented: “The safety of our customers is our number one priority."
"Following revised advice issued by the government regarding the management and safety of tall buildings, we have been carrying out detailed investigations of all our relevant properties to understand whether remedial work is required to satisfy the updated Building Regulations.
“The inspection at St Anne’s Quarter identified that remedial works to the external wall of the building are required to meet the updated guidance.
"We are in the process of taking several steps based on guidance from the National Fire Chiefs Council, including enhancing fire systems and revising fire evacuation strategies where needed, whilst we coordinate a long-term remedial solution for the external wall system with the original developers.
“We have been keeping customers updated with our plans but encourage them to reach out to us directly with any questions they have.”
