Norwich City out of the Carabao Cup after second round defeat
They were beaten 4-0
Norwich City are out of the Carabao Cup in the second round after a 4-0 defeat against Premier League side Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
There was a first start for summer arrival José Córdoba who partnered Grant Hanley in the heart of the defence, with Johannes Hoff Thorup opting to shuffle the pack for the cup.
The home side took the lead early on as Daichi Kamada latched onto Jean-Phillipe Mateta's pass and rounded George Long inside two minutes.
Norwich almost found an equaliser moments later.
Amankwah Forson played a superb ball forward to Onel Hernández, whose cut back saw Ante Crnac's effort saved by Dean Henderson, before Gabe Forsyth's rebound hit the post on its way wide.
Eberechi Eze thought he had doubled Crystal Palace's lead with a deft lob over Long, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Eze continued to threaten for Palace, curling an effort into the side-netting shortly after his offside effort.
Liam Gibbs found Marcelino Núñez in space on the edge of the Palace box, but the Chilean's effort was over the crossbar as the Canaries went into the break a goal behind.
A free-kick from Eze almost led to a second goal early in the second half. His whipped set-piece took a deflection from a Norwich head out for a corner.
Oliver Glasner's side would have their second, adding to the scoreline just before the hour mark. Mateta met Kamada's cross with an acrobatic effort, beating Long in the process.
The Canaries tried to find a way back into the game and almost pulled one back, as Crnac and substitute Oscar Schwartau saw efforts saved by Henderson in quick succession.
Mateta made it three for the home side, finishing powerfully from Eze's cut-back.
Eze got his goal six minutes from time, beating a number of Norwich markers before his deflected effort got beyond Long to add a fourth for Crystal Palace.
The Canaries return to Championship action on Saturday, as they travel away to face Coventry City (KO 12.30pm).
