Plans for major changes at Carrow Road are being met with opposition from Norwich City supporters who fear the redevelopment will negatively impact the stadium's cultural heritage and atmosphere.

Several individuals have submitted objections to Norwich City Council, contesting the club's proposals to transform the River End stand by relocating away supporters to this area.

The intention is to make room for more corporate seating in the South Stand and to create a fan zone behind the Barclay. However, this scheme has sparked outrage among fans, particularly given the lack of consultation during the team's current struggles.

Notably, club owner Mark Attanasio announced last week during a visit to the UK that the redevelopment project has been paused due to the fan backlash, although the application remains active on the council's website.

A number of objectors have outlined various concerns, one worrying about the potential for "violent behaviour" near the family area located within the Joma corner, which also accommodates fans with disabilities.

"The psychological safety of these supporters will be adversely affected by the proposed move of the visiting supporters to an area directly adjacent to the Joma Stand family area," stated one of the objections.

Others highlighted the longstanding presence of season ticket holders in the River End, with many families having supported Norwich City for generations.

"Any alterations that affect this balance risk diluting the heritage and character of Carrow Road, which represents an important part of the city’s community and cultural life," wrote another opponent.

There are also concerns from neighbours about increased disruption from "noisy drunks" should the redevelopment go ahead.

Mr Attanasio confirmed that plans for the four-phase revamp would be paused while further discussions take place with fans before any changes are pursued in the future.
