Norwich celebrates the resilience and positive work of refugees during awareness week
As part of 'Refugee Week', the Norwich-based support charity New Routes and Norwich Theatre have been holding a number of events
Groups across Norwich have been celebrating the resilience and positive work of refugees across the county, with a number of events over the last few days.
As part of 'Refugee Week', the Norwich-based support charity 'New Routes' have been working with local groups to fundraise for people who come here, with their programme 'Welcome Wheels'
"It's so important not just to share facts and information, but also to bring communities together"
Amélie Sells, from the group told us why work like this is all important:
"We provide free bikes to refugees and asylum seekers in Norwich when they first arrive. That can be really life-changing for people if you turn up somewhere and you are only given £40 a week and that's for all food, clothes and toiletries, there is no way you can spend £5 on bus pass every day".
"There is a lot of dis-information and mis-information around seeking asylum and refugees. It's so important not just to share facts and information, but also to bring communities together, share individual stories and celebrate the diversity that refugees and asylum seekers can bring".

Norwich Theatre have been putting on several exhibitions- including 'A mile in my shoes'- which is designed to help local people, see the world through another's eyes
Elspeth Hunter, who helped to put this all together- gave us a hint of what we can expect:
