North Norfolk campaign to keep Ukrainians warm nears target
MP Duncan Baker and North Walsham business owner Rob Scammell have got over 30 generators and enough money to get 30 more
A North Norfolk campaign to help Ukrainians keep warm this winter is nearing its target after two weeks.
MP Duncan Baker and North Walsham business owner Rob Scammell have now got over 30 generators and enough money to get 30 more.
The pair are hoping to raise enough to secure 100 before they're driven to Ukraine in a few weeks.
""I thought there could be fatigue with Ukraine"
Mr Scammell says he's blown away by the local response:
"I thought there could be fatigue with Ukraine, after all things are difficult here as well and I thought it would be a lot harder than it has been to get as far as we have got.
"People's eyes lit up when they saw the few generators we had in the van when we were in Ukraine in November. It became very apparent that there was a desperate need for them.
"In terms of what's needed on a country-wide basis, it is small. But it's not small to those who are getting to receive these, it's huge. We understand some of these will go down to the frontline to help the soldiers.
"In the next few weeks, we'll be taking three vans down to Ukraine. We can definitely still take donations for the next 21 days."
