Work set to start on rebuilding Holt supermarket destroyed by fire
Work's due to start this week on a replacement Budgen's store.
Contractors are due to start work on The Budgens store in Holt this week after it was destroyed by a fire in 2020.
An investigation concluded an electrical fault caused the fire.
While constriction takes place, the temporary supermarket set up opposite the site will continue to operate.
The North Norfolk MP Duncan Baker, who worked for the Budgens shop, said: "I'm delighted to hear that Budgens is now finally going to start rebuilding. It's fantastic news for the community. It's a business that I know incredibly well. I worked there for over a decade.
"When the store burned down, it had an enormous impact on the community. It was the only supermarket in town that served thousands upon thousands of people every week. To lose your flagship store was devastating for the community and the other traders as well. It's great to see it now being rebuilt, and the community will welcome this news."
North Norfolk District Council, who approved the planning application, said: "We welcome the commencement of works and will continue to support efforts which will facilitate the return of the permanent food retail store."
The store is expected to be completed by winter 2022.
