Norfolk wildlife rescue charity to close as volunteers 'running on empty' in hunt for new home
Runham Wildlife Rescue says it is to close down - as it looks for new premises
A Norfolk wildlife rescue charity says it is to close down 'until further notice', as volunteers continue to hunt for a permanent home for the organisation.
Runham Wildlife Rescue, based in Great Yarmouth, has already had to move three times, making getting grants 'almost impossible'.
Staff say the situation is the 'furthest from what we'd like to have happened', with a fundraiser now launched to help the charity buy up land to continue operations.
The charity aims to give injured animals a second chance at life, whether they are domestic pets or originally from the wild.
In a statement on social media, the charity wrote: "Finding someone to rent land off for a small holding to help sick and injured animals is becoming completely impossible and every time it's a little bit of our hearts being chopped away knowing no one wants to help these animals. "
"We've put so much money into doing it all the right way, we've watched our supplies and materials be reduced to ruins from waiting on decisions and promises, and now we are just running on empty trying to find a premises.
"As a result we will be withdrawing from rescue until further notice. We still have patients here so we will have to continue as a Santuary.
"If anyone knows someone who does want to rent land to a small holding for domestic and potentially some wildlife on their land (our wildlife has been seperate for some time due to planning and avian flu regulations) please do get in touch. "
The group is looking for 1 or 2 acres, with at least one outbuilding and space for farm animals.
