Norfolk and Waveney is leading the way with COVID-19 vaccinations, with 80% of people aged over 16 having received their first dose and putting us first out of the 42 health and care systems in England.

According to data published by NHS England and NHS Improvement Norfolk and Waveney is the best performing area in the country for first doses. Some 74% of adults in England have received their first dose.

Some 60% of people aged over 16 in Norfolk and Waveney have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, compared to 52% of adults in England. This puts us fourth out of the 42 health and care systems for second doses.

More than a million doses of vaccine (1,196,745) have been given in Norfolk and Waveney. In the week to 6 June, 55,846 doses were given of which 15,662 were first doses and 40,184 were second doses.

Anyone aged 25 plus can now get a vaccination at one of many locations across the area, many of which offer weekend and evening appointments or drop in opportunities for those who have work or childcare commitments during the day.

Younger people are seizing the chance to receive their COVID-19 jabs.

Nationally there were more than one million bookings for the vaccine through the NHS website on Tuesday this week as those aged 25+ became eligible, a record high figure and the first time daily appointments booked through the national booking service have topped the million mark.

And a local survey of about 900 people aged between 18 and 30 run by NHS Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group found that 90% planned to take up the offer of a vaccine, helping to ease some concerns that younger people might not choose to have the jab and the protection it offers.

Melanie Craig, Chief Executive of NHS Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said:

"Getting the life-saving COVID-19 jab is the most important thing you can do to safeguard yourself and those you care about, so book your appointment and get that vital protection. It's really important that we keep the enthusiasm and the momentum going, so if you're over 25 get your jab booked in and help protect yourselves and your loved ones."
