Norfolk Scrutiny to look at winter planning for COVID

How adult social care is planning to cope with COVID-19 in winter is among the topics to be considered by next meeting of the County Council’s scrutiny committee today (21 October).

Over the last few months, the committee has investigated how the council has tackled different aspects of the pandemic. The latest phase will look at support for vulnerable people and winter planning, children’s services and children’s return to school and the council’s budget prospects.

Scrutiny committee chair, Councillor Steve Morphew, said:

"All parts of the council and our partners would do well to follow the Scrutiny Committee’s examination of the COVID response, as there are clear lessons to be drawn. Opportunities to embed new and innovative practice that worked are as crucial as patching up the parts that performed less well.

"COVID is still with us and there will be no vaccination against the consequences for Norfolk’s services and economy. There is a shift in public attitudes we can engage with for the public good, or ignore in the hope of a return to old ways that we really need to pause and review. Scrutiny will be looking at whether the old priorities have been tested and whether there are new ones or changes we think should be adopted.
