Norfolk Police have seized nearly 60 knives and arrested nine people during a week-long effort to clamp down on knife crime, in the county.

This year's Operation Sceptre saw officers carry out hotspot patrols, weapon sweeps and visit schools and retailers.

More than 20 intelligence reports were given to police from the public relating to knives and bladed weapons, and 23 knives were handed in across the county.

Of the nine people arrested in Norfolk, the following people were charged:

• Sean Walpole, age 48, of Cabbell Road, Cromer, was charged with possession of a knife, two counts of common assault of an emergency worker, assault by beating of an emergency worker, and being drunk and disorderly in a public place after being arrested in North Walsham on 14 November.

He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on 16 November and has been bailed to appear at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court on 8 July 2024.

• Edmond Vata, age 18, of Tizzick Close, Norwich, was charged with possession of a knife in a public place after being arrested on Deopham Road, Deopham on 16 November.

He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on 18 November and was bailed to return to the same court on 24 January 2024.

"We know the devastating effect it can have on families"

Inspector Ian Cox of Norfolk Police said: "This latest week of action underlines our year-round commitment to tackle knife-related crime in Norfolk.

“The Community Policing Teams have worked hard, along with our partner agencies, to seize these weapons, as well as educate people about the risks of carrying a blade.

“While levels of knife crime do remain low in our county, we know the devastating effect it can have on families. We will continue to work hard to reduce that further and protect our community.”
