Norfolk Police report mostly quiet weekend
Most behaved sensibly after restrictions eased

Police have thanked the public for their continued support following the first weekend of the most significant easing of lockdown restrictions.
Step 2 of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown was introduced one week ago today (Monday 19 April 2021) with pubs, bars and restaurants offering outdoor services, non-essential shops, hairdressers and gyms among those allowed to open their doors again.
Additional police resources were in place on Saturday and Sunday (17 & 18 April 2021) in anticipation of a busy weekend and local authorities worked closely with other agencies, including the police, to make sure venues were aware of their licensing objectives and COVID guidelines.
While enforcement of business premises remained with local authorities, the police focussed on individual breaches and other alcohol related offences. Very few incidents were reported and people acted responsibly, continuing to adhere to social distancing guidelines and not gathering in large groups.
Norwich City Football Club's promotion to the Premier League also passed off relatively peacefully. A small number of people gathered outside the ground after the club's match against Bournemouth on Saturday evening (17 April 2021). A man aged in his 20s from the Attleborough area was arrested in Wherry Road, Norwich, shortly after 10pm after a firework was set off in a public place. He was taken to
Wymondham Police Investigation Centre and later released from custody after being given a caution.
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Julie Wvendth said:
"The last few months have been extremely challenging for everyone and naturally people wanted to enjoy greater freedom provided by the easing of restrictions and meet with friends and family outside. It's clear that people enjoyed themselves safely and responsibly.
"Our journey out of lockdown remains overwhelmingly positive with most people embracing the gradual return of freedoms while remembering that the virus is still with us, and playing it safe. I want to thank them for their unwavering support and for continuing to stick to the rules.
"The continued rollout of the vaccination is very positive and welcome news for us all, but let's continue to follow social distancing guidelines so we can protect ourselves, our loved ones and our county."
