Norfolk Police has referred itself to the policing regulator after a crash on the A47 at Acle over the weekend which left a man seriously injured.

The crash happened on Acle New Road at around 2am on Sunday, with the vehicle involved overturning.

The road was closed in both directions between the Vauxhall and Acle roundabouts.

The driver, a man in his 30s from Birmingham, remains at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Police have revealed they followed the vehicle from an Asda supermarket because of concerns over the way it was being driven.

Independent Office of Police Conduct will now look into the incident, as is standard procedure for crashes involving police officers.
