A hospital in Norfolk has declared a critical incident due to an increased number of people at their Emergency Department.

James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston says they're currently experiencing pressure on their bed capacity as a result.

While they are experiencing such high demand, the hospital want to remind people to only go to their Accident and Emergency Department is it a genuine emergency.

Health bosses are also encouraging people to make use of NHS 111 both online and over the phone, to get advice on how to get care at any time of day or night.

For non-urgent cases people are being asked to speak to their GP practice or pharmacist.

Patients with appointments and or planned procedures at the hospital are being told to still attend as planned, unless they hear from the hospital.

The James Paget say they are working closely with their partners in the Norfolk and Waveny healthcare system to maximise capacity during this high period of demand.
