A dog trainer in Norfolk is urging all those thinking of buying a pet to do some "through research", before bringing a new furry friend in their lives.

Those working at the RSPCA say they're seeing a "spiralling number" of abandoned animals. With the charity saying they took in 12 thousand more pets last year, than they re-homed.

It's launching a campaign to coincide with its 200th anniversary, urging people to rehome an animal rather than go to a breeder.

"Take it to the nearest vet"

Damion Vincent is from 'Fetch Dog Walking and Training':

He told us why increasing numbers are giving up their pets:

"This possibly due to the cost of living crisis. Where people are purchasing animals, then the costs of premiums go up with insurance, food is expensive and the general costs of having an animals ultimately means they have to give it up".

Damion also has this advice for those who find an abandoned animal:

"The first thing you need to do is take it to the nearest vet. They'll then be able to scan the animals micro-chip, which will bring up their address and that will hopefully mean they'll be back with their owner soon. If it's an injured wild animal, it's best to take them to the RSPCA".
